BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Kendra MacDonald and Sydney Liptak combined for five scores as the University of New England picked up a 6-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey win over Roger Williams University on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 13) at UNE Blue Bolt Field.
Â
The Nor'easters (8-7, 7-1 CCC) struck five times during a 21-minute span in the 1st half to grab a commanding lead. Liptak got the offense started in the 11th minute with a feed from Julia Paini, before netting her other just 3:21 later off a pass from Kersey Boulay. Reanna Boulay finished a feed from her older sister to make it 3-0, and MacDonald notched a pair of unassisted tallies to pad the cushion.
Â
After
Lea Peterson converted a feed from
Hannah Gaffney in the 47th minute to get the Hawks (6-8, 3-5 CCC) on the board, MacDonald completed her hat trick in the 53rd minute as Kersey posted her third helper.
Â
UNE had decided advantages in shots (23-4) and penalty corners (12-1) during the match, forcing RWU goalie
Callie Flanagan into nine saves. For the hosts, Liz Sargent recorded one stop in 53 minutes of work.
Â
The Nor'easters, who secured their spot in the league postseason with the result, entertain Nichols College on Tuesday (4 p.m.).
