BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team suffered a hard-fought 4-5 setback to Salve Regina University Friday afternoon in the team's final Commonwealth Coast Conference match of the season.

The Seahawks managed to come out of doubles with a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Lauren Harvey (Edmond, Okla.) and Makenzie Sadler (Mystic, Conn.) took #1 doubles 8-3 over Taryn Roche (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and Riley Spillane (Easton, Mass.). However Libby Bennett (Watertown, Conn.) and Morgan Crimmins (Boston, Mass.) responded with a hard fought 9-8 (5) win over Abigail Burke (Harwich, Mass.) and Darcy Carlin (Brewster, N.Y.) at #2. Tanya Gianitsos (Old Saybrook, Conn.) and Samantha Rivkin (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) batted Anna Godshalk (Orleans, Mass.) and Erin Stangel (Old Saybrook, Conn.) at #3 but were unable to pull out the match, as the Seahawks won 9-8 (4).

At singles, the Hawks claimed two wins via retirement. Gianitsos was leading 6-3, 4-0 at #4 before her opponent Laura Krick (Groton, Conn.) bowed out. Rivkin was up 4-3 in the second set at #6 after being downed 1-6 in the first set to Carlin. Carlin was unable to continue to give RWU the set win.

Harvey picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Roche at #1, while Stangel downed Bennett 6-1, 6-1 at #5. Crimmins was able to defeated Burke 6-3, 5-7, 10-5 at #3, but Sadler's 7-6 (9), 6-1 win over Spillane ended up as the deciding match.
