BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball Team fell to Rhode Island College this Sunday, 63-48.
Ornela Livramento (Pawtucket, R.I.) put the Anchorwomen on the board first with two free shots followed with a layup from Jordyn Gauvin (Fall River, Mass.).
Gabby Jerahian (Quincy, Mass.) scored the Hawks first points with two free shots putting the score at 4-2.
With about five minutes left in the first quarter, the score remained at 13-9 for a four-minute stretch until Sophia Guerrier (Waltham, Mass.) made a layup to bring the Anchorwomen up 15-9 with about one minute left. RIC held the lead for the rest of the quarter, ending with a score of 17-13.
Sam Mancinelli (Peabody, Mass.) made a layup 30 seconds into the second quarter to cut the Anchorwomen's lead to two. The Hawks trailed behind Rhode Island College, with Brooke Young (West Warwick, R.I.) later a three-pointer to advance RIC's lead to 27-21 with four minutes left. The Anchorwomen kept the lead the remainder of the first half, ending it with their biggest lead of the game thus far at 34-26. Young scored 10 of the 17 points for RIC in the second quarter.
In the second half, the Hawks had a 4-0 run with a layup from Mancinelli and Jerahian putting the score at 34-30. RWU cut the Anchorwomen's lead to one with about three minutes left in the third quarter.
Sam Leone (Ashland, Mass.) scored a three-pointer to tie the game for the first time at 40-40. With less than a second left in the quarter, Young scored a three-pointer to leave the Anchorwomen in the lead 45-42.
In the final quarter, the Hawks stunned the Hawks with a 10-0 run to take a 55-42 lead. Mancinelli scored the Hawks first point of the quarter with about five minutes left.
Alyssa Grant (Berlin, Conn.) then scored a jumper for RWU with two minutes left to put the score at 45-57.
The Hawks went into a time out with about one minute left in the game and the Anchorwomen up 61-48. Jordyn Gauvin (Fall River, Mass.) finished the game with two free shots for RI College to finish the game in the lead, 63-48.
Grant led the Hawks with 14 points and five rebounds. Mancinelli had 10 points and one rebound. Leone contributed with nine points and three rebounds.
Leading the Anchorwomen was Young with 14 points and eight rebounds. Gauvin contributed with 13 points and seven rebounds. Maire Gallagher (Worcester, Mass.) also had 13 points with six rebounds.
Roger Williams (2-3) will travel to Western New England this Wednesday. Rhode Island College (6-0) will host Eastern Connecticut State University this Wednesday.
