Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team won against Endicott College in the CCC Semifinal, with a final score of 58-50.
The win for the Hawks also set a new school record for single-season wins with 23. The previous record of 22 was set by the 2013-14 team, who qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history that season.
The Hawks started off the first quarter with a free throw from
Rebecca Ritchie (Hanover, Mass.). RWU had a strong defense, holding Endicott to four points within the first 5:33. The Gulls took their first lead of the game with 4:04 left with a three-pointer by Emily Pratt (Gardner, Mass.) to make the score 9-8. The teams went back and forth with five lead changes and neither team taking a big lead early on. With a combined team effort, six different Hawks contributed to their lead at the end of the quarter with a score of 16-14.
RWU got off to a hot start in the second quarter in a 6-0 run with the help of a three-pointer from
Mariah Nicholas (Acushnet, Mass.). The Hawks gained their biggest lead at 7:46 with the score at 22-14. However, Endicott was able to hold RWU scoreless for nearly four minutes until
Teagan Dunn (Burlington, Conn.) made a layup at 2:35 (26-22). After a three-pointer from Pratt for the Gulls, the Hawks were able to go on another 6-0 run in the final 2:08 to extend their lead to seven, going up 32-25 into halftime. Nicholas led RWU with 13 points, while Pratt led the way for Endicott with 12 points going into the second half.
Both teams remained scoreless for nearly three minutes into the second half until Dunn made a layup for the Hawks at 7:07. A pair of free throws from Gabby Jerahian (Quincy, Mass.) gave RWU its biggest lead of the game at 39-28 with 4:26 on the clock. The Gulls then went on an 8-0 run, putting the score at 39-36. This would be the smallest lead for RWU since the score was 26-25 in the second quarter. With a key three-pointer from
Stephanie Bramante (Stoneham, Mass.) in the final minute, the third quarter ended with RWU in the lead at 42-36. Leading the Gulls was Hannah Kiernan (Wenham, Mass.) scoring seven of their 11 points in the quarter.
The Hawks got off to a slow start remaining scoreless for the first three minutes of the final quarter until Dunn scored a layup at 6:44. This started a 6-0 for RWU to put the score at 48-39. Pratt made a three-pointer at 4:36 to cut the deficit to 42-48. With 21 seconds left, Jerahian had a breakaway layup to put the score at 57-49. One of the key plays came with 1:21 left, when Nicholas grabbed an offensive rebound off of two missed free throws for Roger Williams and laid in the put back to put RWU up by nine. The Gulls continued to fight back, but the Hawks were able to keep their lead, ending with a final score of 58-50.
Nicholas had a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds, leading the Hawks. Dunn also had a double-double with 12 points, 14 rebounds, and four blocks. Jerahian contributed with 15 points, five rebounds, and three steals.
Pratt led the way for the Gulls with 21 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Kiernan contributed with 17 points, six rebounds, and two steals.
Roger Williams (23-4) will travel to the top-seeded University of New England Saturday in search of their first-ever CCC Championship. Endicott ends the season at 17-10.
