#5 SUNY Cortland Takes Game Over Baseball

Box Score LEXINGTON, S.C. – The Roger Williams University Baseball team suffered a 3-7 setback to SUNY Cortland fifth-ranked in the team's first game on their Spring Break trip.
 
The Red Dragons put the Hawks in a hole early on, scoring four runs in the first inning. SUNY Cortland sent all nine batters to the plate in the frame, taking advantage of three errors in the inning while notching five hits to take a 4-0 lead.
 
Roger Williams managed to get on the board in the third inning, bringing home three runners. Danny Roth (West Hartford, Conn.) slugged a two-RBI trip to center to bring home Tyler Cedeno (Maynard, Mass.) and Bryan Goodwin (Belmont, Mass.). Dean DePreta (Stamford, Conn.) followed with an RBI groundout to bring the Hawks within one.
 
SUNY Cortland got one of the runs back in the bottom of the third, with Marcos Perivolaris scoring on a sacrifice fly. The Red Dragons added two more in the fifth on a two-run Patrick Schetter home run.
 
RWU was able to get runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh innings, but could not bring them home, as SUNY Cortland held on for the win.
 
Jimmy Smith (Walpole, Mass.) was tagged with the loss, giving up seven runs (five earned) in 5.0 innings. Roth was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Goodwin was 2-for-3 with a run.
