Baseball Falls To Swarthmore

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Roger Williams University Baseball team dropped a pair of road decisions to Swarthmore College Sunday afternoon, falling 4-8 and 5-13.
 
Swarthmore jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, picking up RBI base hits from Cole Beeker and Jackson Robe. The Hawks would get back one of those runs in the following inning. Shane Nowak (Litchfield, N.H.) punched a single to right center to score Justin Stone (Blackstone, Mass.).
 
RWU took the lead in the third inning, putting three runs across the plate. Stone hugged the left field line with a two-RBI double to bring in Dean DePreta (Stamford, Conn.) and Chris Bosco (North Andover, Mass.). Anthony Dominguez (Chester, N.J.) later brought home Stone with an RBI single up the middle.
 
The Garnet erased the deficit in the bottom half of the third, getting back all three runs on RBI hits from Jared Gillen, Matt Palmer, and AJ Liu. Swarthmore would pull away from RWU with three more runs in the fifth to come away with the win.
 
Michael Farrell (Bellingham, Mass.) took the loss, giving up six runs in 2.2 innings of relief. Stone finished 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Bosco was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
 
In the nightcap, Bosco put the Hawks on top 2-0 in the third inning with a two-RBI single to right center score Nowak and Danny Roth (West Hartford, Conn.). Nowak came through in the following inning with another run for the Hawks. Noah Keefe (Cato, N.Y.) scored on an RBI double to center field from Nowak for a 3-0 RWU lead.
 
Swarthmore grabbed all three runs back in the bottom of the fourth on singles from Robe and Gillen as well as a sac fly from Coleson Hebb. The Garnet took the lead in the fifth with three more runs then broke the game open in the sixth, plating seven runs in the frame.
 
RWU tried to make a two-out rally in the top of the ninth, with George Somers (Lake Hopcatong, N.J.) and Max Paul (Danvers, Mass.) coming home on an error in the outfield. However, Swarthmore induced a pop-out to second on the next batter to claim the win.
 
Justin Garcia (Foxborough, Mass.) suffered the loss, allowing six runs in five innings. Nowak was 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI, with Roth going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
 
Roger Williams (0-4) begins its spring break trip beginning on Saturday.
