Men’s Soccer Pulls Away Late For Win

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team used two late goals to pull off a 3-1 win over Keene State College Saturday afternoon in the team's first game of 2018.

The Hawks broke a 1-1 tie with two goals in the final seven minutes to pull away for the win. The game was characterized by physical play by both teams throughout the entire contest.

Benny Tamzarian scored first for Keene State, tallying his first score of the game 16 minutes into the contest. The Owls' one-goal lead would hold up for ten minute until Jacob Grant posted a goal at the 26-minute mark from Stathi Panagiotidis (Norwalk, Conn.) to tie the game at one apiece.

In the second half, neither team was able to notch the go-ahead goal over the first 35+ minutes. It appeared that the game would be headed to overtime until Hunter Graham (North Yarmouth, Maine) found Ryan Miller (Hillsdale, N.J.) for the key goal at the 83-minute mark to give RWU a 2-1 advantage. Four minutes later, Colby Decker (Colchester, Conn.) and Jordan Lach (Norton, Mass.) connected with Panagiotidis for the insurance goal to send RWU to the win.

Edmund Geschickter (Brookline, Mass.) made four saves in the game for Roger Williams in the win. Gavin Fitzpatrick made three saves in the loss.

In the first game of the Roger Williams University Opening Weekend Invitational, Rhode Island College posted a 2-0 win over Colby-Sawyer College.

Roger Williams (1-0-0) will face off against Rhode Island College tomorrow at 1:30pm.
