SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team defeated the Western New England Golden Bears 8-1 on a Thursday afternoon. The Hawks won all three doubles and five of the six singles matches on the day.
Heidi Martin (Scituate, Mass.),
Riley Spillane (Easton, Mass.), and
Jessica Magliato (New Rochelle, N.Y.) all helped lead the way for RWU, earning points in both doubles and singles competition. Martin and Magliato posted a 8-5 win,
Taryn Roche (Greenlawn, N.Y.) and Spillane earned a 8-1 victory, and
Morgan Crimmins (Boston, Mass.) and
Libby Bennett (Watertown, Conn.) won 8-2 during the doubles competition.
In singles play, Martin defeated Maylene LaPress (Bedford, N.H.) in a 6-4, 6-2 match. Spillane put up a 7-5, 6-1 victory against Petra Martinelli (Vernon, Conn). Magliato defeated her opponent in two sets both with a score of 6-1. Crimmins took down Rachel Bauer (Palmer, Mass.) 6-1, 6-3 and
Tanya Gianitsos (Old Saybrook, Conn.) cruised 6-1 in both sets.
Roger Williams will be hosting Wentworth at home on Saturday the 15
th at 12 p.m. and Western New England will be facing Endicott at 1 p.m. on Saturday as well.
