Men’s Soccer Remains Undefeated

BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer Team shut out Wheaton College with a final score of 2-0 this Wednesday.
 
Less than seven minutes into the game, Michael Oliveira (Waterville, Maine) shot at the goal for the Hawks and hit the crossbar. Immediately after, Jordan Lach (Norton, Mass.) shot the ball off the crossbar.  
 
The Lyons had their first shot on goal 10 minutes into the game by Quinton Hay (East. Lansing, Mich.). Four minutes later, James Lee (Sudbury, Mass.) for the Hawks saved a shot from Troy Mattos (Somerset, Mass.).
 
With 23:40 left in the first half, Spencer Thibodeau (Kennebunkport, Maine) and John Ryan for RWU (Southbury, Conn.) shot at goal, both saved by Peter Pond (Providence, R.I.).
 
The Hawks were the first to get on the scoreboard with a goal by Andrew Kirschenbaum (Hamden, Conn.) taking an assist from Connor Edwards (Deerfield, Mass.) with three minutes left in the first half.
 
Despite a shot by Alex Nickerson (York, Maine), Wheaton remained scoreless, ending the first half with a score of 0-1 and RWU in the lead.  
 
12 minutes into the second half, Jack Wetzel (Northport, N.Y.) scored his first goal of the season for RWU taking an assist from Tyler Andrade (S. Glastonbury, Conn.). The Hawks gained their biggest lead of the game with a score of 2-0.
 
Garrett Bolton (Candia, N.H.) blocked a shot in goal for RWU from Luca de Castro Novaes (Scarsdale, N.Y.) in the 63rd minute.   
 
Both teams continued to play both strong offense and defense, but neither scored in the last 27 minutes of the game. The Hawks remain undefeated with a final score of 2-0.
 
Lee had five saves for RWU. Pond had six saves for Wheaton.
 
Roger Williams University (7-0) will host the University of New England on Saturday. Wheaton College (4-4) will host Clark University on Saturday.
