PROVIDENCE, R.I.—The Roger Williams Women's Volleyball team lost 3-0 to Tufts University on a Saturday afternoon at Johnson & Wales.
Offensively for the Hawks,
Julia Fields (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y) led the team with 11 assists and two kills while
Katherine Pickard (St. Petersburg, Fla.) chipped in five kills as well. However, Cate Desler (Hillsborough, Calif.) from Tufts had 14 kills and Ariel Zedric (Peoria, Ill.) had 16 assists on the day. Defensively,
Kate Grabowski (Hebron, Conn.) came up with 10 digs for the Hawks but the Jumbos Brigid Bell (Granite Bay, Calif.) totaled 11.
In the first set, RWU kept it close only trailing by two points in the beginning until Tufts had a five point streak that secured the first win of the evening with a score of 25-14.
The second set started off strong for the Hawks with a three point streak including a couple of service aces by Sophia Acker (La Jolla, Calif) and Bell. It was a close battle for the majority of the set and during a few times the score was tied, but the Jumbos pushed through in the end and claimed the second victory 25-18.
The last set was mostly dominated by the Jumbos who had 15 kills to win the match against RWU. In total, the Hawks had 20 kills and the Jumbos had 41.
Up next for the Hawks is a home match against Brandeis University at 7:00 pm on Tuesday September 25
th. The Jumbos face Wellesley University away at 7:00 pm on Wednesday September 26
th.
