How It Happened
The Bison struck first three minutes into the game with Dana Edwards knocking in a loose ball off of a deflected save for a quick 1-0 Nichols lead. In the second quarter, the Bison almost added another goal seven minutes in, but a diving save by
Callie Flanagan and a defensive save from
Taylor Woodbury on back-to-back shots kept them off the board.
The Hawks would tie the game with 34 seconds left in the half with
Emma Stevens scoring on a long pass from
Anna Vasaturo. The tie game would last until halfway through the third quarter when Edwards logged her second goal of the game to regain the lead for Nichols.
Roger Williams nearly tied the game again with four minutes left in the quarter, with
Alex Coppinger (Guilderland, N.Y.) taking a penalty stroke. However her attempt was denied off a glove save by keeper Brooke Misbach. The Hawks' tying goal would come at the end of the period, as Stevens tapped in a putback with five seconds left in the period.
The Hawks would take their first lead of the day when
Hannah Palmer scored her eighth goal of the year to put RWU up 3-2. However with ten minutes left to play, Nichols got a penalty stroke of the own. Mackenzie Doran put up a shot that Flanagan was able to get a glove on, but trickled into the goal to tie the game. Neither side was able to score again, sending the game to OT.
Three minutes into the OT period, Carlee Tolley took a shot from the right side that found its way into the left corner to give Nichols its first conference win of the season.
