BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team won its home opener against Elms College 101-85 in the first game of the Roger Williams University/Courtyard By Marriott Tip-Off Tournament.

How It Happened
The Hawks jumped out to quick 8-0 lead to kick off the game. RWU would extend that lead to 18 (22-4) seven minutes into the contest. Roger Williams led by double digits the entire first half as the Hawks shot a blistering 62.1 percent from the field including 50.0 percent from behind the arc. Framingham State conversely only shot 37.8 percent in the half. After the first 20 minutes of play, RWU held a 54-36 advantage.
Doug Hostetler knocked down a trey two minutes into the half to give the Hawks their largest lead of the game (59-38). Despite the large deficit, the Blazers mounted a rally halfway through the period.
Trailing 63-82 with 9:31 left, Elms used a 16-2 run to pull with six with under six minutes to play. However, the Hawks answered with a 10-2 run to go back up by 14 with two minutes left. That lead would help RWU cruise to the 16-point win.
In the second game of the tip-off tourney, Bowdoin held off a late rally from Framingham State to earn a 79-70 win.
