DUDLEY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team was downed 110-77 by #20 Nichols College Tuesday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.
 
The Hawks were unable to withstand a strong second-half performance by the Bison, in which Nichols poured in 71 points while shooting 60% from the field including 10 three-pointers.
 
In the first half, the two squads went neck and neck at each other, signified by 13 lead changes and seven ties. Roger Williams began the game on a 7-2 run before the Bison climbed back in the game. RWU managed to shoot 56.7 percent from the field in the period, including 10 from Austin Coene (Tyngsborough, Mass.) and nine from Drew Hart (Cheshire, Conn.). However, despite RWU's strong first-half effort, the Hawks only led by one at the half (40-39).
 
The tide turned shortly into the second half in Nichols' favor. A three-pointer by Marcos Echevarria helped give the Bison a 47-46 lead two minutes into the period. RWU was able to keep the deficit at no more than four for the next three minutes. However, Nichols stormed off on a 12-2 run to go up by 14 with 12:52 left. The Bison lead would extend to 20 halfway into the period, as RWU was unable to mount the comeback.
 
Coene led RWU with 21 points to go along with five rebounds. Eli Harris added a career-high 17 points off the bench, while Hart went for 11 points and five boards.
 
Roger Williams (11-11, 8-5 CCC) will host Endicott College on Saturday.
