Baseball Gets Set Back by Oswego State

LEXINGTON, S.C.—The Roger Williams Baseball team lost to Oswego State 6-3 on Friday night under the lights.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Hawks gained two runs. With one out, Danny Roth (West Hartford, Conn.) singled to left center. Ben Bonavita (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was up next and roped the ball down the right field line scoring Roth due to an error. Eli Camner (Hamden, Conn.) reached second on a dropped fly ball by the center fielder plating Bonavita. After captain Anthony Dominguez (Chester, N.J.) was hit by a pitch, he attempted to steal second but was caught by the catcher. However, Camner scored on the throw to second making it a 3-0 ball game.

Oswego State gained two runs in the top of the fifth trying to catch up to the Hawks who was still in the lead 3-2.

The Lakers came from behind in the top of the seventh by adding four runs to the board. Jonathan Luppens (Wading River, N.Y.) hit a double to right field advancing his teammate who walked over to third. Craig Demers (Acushnet, Mass.) who was pitching for the Hawks, intentionally walked the next batter to load the bases. A walk, two singles, and an RBI fly out led to a 6-3 lead.

The Hawks tried to answer in the bottom of the ninth when Roth hit a leadoff double to the right center gap but they could not bring him home in time before the game ended.

RWU has one more game left on their spring break tomorrow against Trinity College at 9:00 a.m.
