BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Baseball Team swept Curry College 6-0 this Sunday afternoon.
In the first game, neither team got a run until the bottom of the third inning. An RBI from
Chris Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) advanced
Joey Gulino (Meriden, Conn.) and
Tommy Hobin (Madison, Conn.) home to give the Hawks the lead.
Tyler Cedeno (Maynard, Mass.) grounded out on a sacrifice bunt and advanced
Brandon Jenkins (East Bridgewater, Mass.) home to bring the score to 3-0 in the fourth inning. Despite a line drive and a stolen base from Bosco in the top of the fifth inning, he did not advance home.
The Colonels still could not find home and the Hawks continued to dominate the game in the final innings. Jenkins flied out to left field in an RBI to bring
Ben Bonavita (East Longmeadow, Mass.) home in the bottom of the seventh.
To finish the game, Gulino hit a homerun to advance both him and
Eddy Jackson (Seekonk, Mass.) home and the final score of 6-0.
Gulino led the Hawks with two runs and two RBIs.
Connor Hewlette (Deer Park, N.Y.) took the win with one strikeout.
Zachary Wensley (Raynham, Mass.) took the loss and allowed three runs.
In the second game, Julian Jaume (Brooklyn, N.Y.) walked for Colby followed by a strikeout from
Michael Farrell (Bellingham, Mass.) in the second game. Evan Leverorni (Sandown, N.H.) doubled to right center in an RBI to bring Jared Keller (Oxford, Conn.) home unearned and give the Colonels their first run.
Despite a single from
Joey Gulino (Meriden, Conn.) and
Ben Bonavita (East Longmeadow, Mass.), the Hawks could not find home. The Colonels kept the lead going into the second inning.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the second,
Eddy Jackson (Seekonk, Mass.) singled to left field in an RBI to bring
Brandon Jenkins (East Bridgewater, Mass.) home and tie the game at 1-1. In the bottom of the third inning,
Tyler Cedeno (Maynard, Mass.) made a sacrificed bunt to advance Bonavita home and put the Hawks in the lead.
All three of Curry's batters struck out in the start of the fourth inning. Jackson made a single up middle field in the bottom of the inning and continued to steal second base but did not find home.
Anthony Sapienza (North Andover, Mass.) struck out two batters in the top of the fifth inning to keep the Hawks lead of one. In the top of the sixth inning, Dylan Ketterer (Plymouth, Mass.) singled up the middle in an RBI to bring Jenkins home and tie the game at 2-2.
In the bottom of the seventh inning,
Danny Roth (West Hartford, Conn.) singled to left field and stole second base. Cedeno followed with a double RBI to advance both Roth and Bonavita home to put the Hawks up by two.
With two outs on the board in the top of the eighth inning, Leveroni made an RBI to bring Trevor Pietrzyk (Taunton, Mass.) home. To tie the game for the third time, Jhonathan Oliveria (Peabody, Mass.) reached first on a throwing error and brought Jenkins home for the Colonels.
Curry took the lead on a Hawk's mistake. After Oliveria reach first on a throwing error, Jenkins went home to put the score at 5-4. In the bottom of the inning, Roth singled through to the left side to bring
Justin Stone (Blackstone, Mass.) home to tie the game at 5-5.
Bonavita led RWU with two runs. Cedeno contributed with three RBIs. Farrell struck out three and allowed one run in three innings. Sapienza struck out two and allowed one run in three innings. Ryan Havuven (Lincoln, R.I.) struck out four and allowed three runs in two innings.
Jenkins led Curry with two runs. Leveroni contributed with two RBIs. James Mello (Fall River, Mass.) struck out five and allowed four runs in six innings.
Roger Williams (6-7) will head to UMass-Dartmouth this Thursday. Curry College (4-7) will travel to Dean College tomorrow.
