Women’s Lacrosse Upended By Colby

BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Women's Lacrosse Team was handed a 12-2 loss from Colby College Sunday morning.
 
The Mules got off to a fast start with an unassisted goal by Grace Langmuir (Providence, R.I.) thirty seconds into the first half. At the 26:49 mark, Taylor Moore (Weston, Conn.) went down the middle of the Hawks defense and found the back of the net to put Colby up by two.
 
RWU put themselves on the board about two minutes later with Shayne Rivard (Easton, Conn.) taking an assist from Lauren Flahive (Foxborough, Mass.) in a player-up situation play. The Mules extended their lead with a second goal from Langmuir taking an assist from Moore to put the score at 3-1.
 
With just over 15 minutes left in the first half, Robyn Pirie (Ipswich, Mass.) scored a goal for Colby in a free position opportunity. Just over a minute later, Pirie passed the ball to Moore to give the Mules another goal. At the 7:42 mark, Lydia Nelson (Center Moriches, N.Y.) saved a free position shot from Langmuir to keep Colby's lead to four.
 
Olivia McCabe (Weston, Mass.) finished off the first half with three seconds left taking an assist from Emma Banks (North Haven, Conn.) to increase their lead to five. The score was 6-1 going into the second half.
 
The Mules scored five more goals in the first 25 minutes of the second half to take a ten-goal lead with just over five minutes left in the game. At the 3:52 mark, Devon Sarazin (Falmouth, Maine) went straight through the goalie and scored unassisted for the Hawks. To finish the game, Pirie found the back of the net for the third time taking an assist from Lyla Jones (McLean, Va.). Colby College took the win with a final score of 12-2.
 
Rivard and Sarazin each scored for the Hawks. Madi Drain (Waterboro, Maine) added five draw controls. Nelson took the loss, making 10 saves.
 
Moore led the Mules with five points on three goals and two assists. Pirie contributed with four points on three goals and one assist. Sarah Stark (Pittsford, N.Y.) added three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Izzy Scribano (Darien, Conn.) had four saves in the win.
 
Roger Williams (4-3) will begin Commonwealth Coast Conference play on Wednesday at Western New England University. Colby (5-1) head to Montclair State next, also on Wednesday.
