BOSTON, Mass.—The Roger William Softball team lost a pair of games to Suffolk University 4-5 and 2-4 on a Sunday afternoon.
In game one,
Hailey Prechtel (Glenmont, N.Y.) and
Alyssa Murray (Green Brook, N.J.) were on the mound allowing a collective five runs, three walks, seven hits, and earning two strikeouts.
The Rams started off with a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning by a 2 RBI single from Ashley Zulla (Columbus, N.J.).
The Hawks answered in the top of the second when Murray singled through the left side.
Tara Chatowsky (North Kingstown, R.I.) walked and Alexa Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.) drove the ball up the middle scoring Murray on the play.
Amanda Boulter (Wakefield, Mass.) was due up next and scarified flied out to right field plating Tr Chatowsky.
Bella Malvinni (Westerly, R.I.) then laid down a perfect bunt and beat the throw causing the third run to be scored.
With the Hawks up one, Caityln Murphy (Abington, Mass.) hit a 2 RBI double to plate two in the bottom of the second. The score became 5-3 when Jacyln Flint (Medfield, Mass.) hit a fly ball to center scoring another run.
It wasn't until the bottom of the seventh that the Hawks tacked on their last run when
Sydney Provencal (Cumberland, R.I.) singled to bring home
Audrey Gavin (Old Lyme, Conn.) for the final score of 5-4.
The Hawks collected a total of eight hits while Suffolk totaled 7.
In game two,
Ellie Fleming (Marshfield, Mass.) and
Lia Nocella (Tyngsboro, Mass.) took the rubber for the Hawks collecting a total of two strikeouts.
The Hawks came out on top again in the top of the first inning scoring a run early on.
Alexis Romano (Shirley, N.Y.) doubled in her first at bat of game two. Provencal stepped in the batter's box next and singled through the left side. Fleming then reached on an error by the Ram's first baseman scoring Romano for a 1-0 lead.
RWU came back to grab another run in the top of the second when Tr Chatowsky tripled to center field to start the inning. Maddi Francis (Coventry, Conn.) then grounded out to third base but plated Chatowsky to put them up by two runs.
The Rams came from behind in the bottom of the second earning three runs from three singles and a couple of errors in the field. They came back in the fifth to tack on one more run to win the game 4-2.
The Hawks (6-8) come back Tuesday March 26
th against Rhode Island College (5-5) in a double header at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
