BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Softball Team lost both games against Rhode Island College this Tuesday afternoon, down 13-4 in the first game and 17-3 in the second game.
In the first game, the Anchormen started with an RBI from Briana Gough (West Warwick, R.I.) to bring Cristin Chiaverini (Pawtucket, R.I.) home unearned in the top of the first inning.
Elizabeth Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.) then stole home to give the Hawks their first run and tie the game at 1-1.
The game stayed tied until Gough hit another RBI to bring Chiaverini home again in the top of the third inning. This was followed with an RBI from Amber Wainwright (Taunton, Mass.) to advance Marissa Cushman (Cranston, R.I.) home and bring the score to 3-1. The Hawks came back with a double to right field from
Sydney Provencal (Cumberland, R.I.) to bring E. Lombardo home. Provencal then found home with an RBI from
Tara Chatowsky (North Kingston, R.I.) to tie the game again at 3-3.
RIC froze RWU at three with three RBIs from Cushman, Wainwright and Kelsey Burgess (North Providence, R.I.) in the top of the fourth inning to bring Michaela DeAngelis (North Providence, R.I.), Emma Simmons (Saunderstown, R.I.) and Cushman home.
The Anchormen extended their lead in the top of the fifth inning with a double RBI from Cushman to bring DeAngelis home. Chiaverini then advanced home on a wild pitch followed by Wainwright with a single up the middle to bring Cushman home. To bring their lead to 10, DeAngelis reached first on an error to bring Burgess and Wainwright home unearned and the score at 13-3.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Hawks made one run with a double to left field by Tr Chatowsky to advance Provencal home. The first game ended with a final score of 13-4.
Provencal led the Hawks with two runs and one RBI. Both Tr Chatowksy and
Bella Malvinni (Westerly, R.I.) contributed with two putouts and three assists.
Alyssa Murray (Green Brook, N.J.) took the loss with six runs allowed in 3.2 innings.
Cushman led the Anchormen with three runs and three RBIs. Wainwright contributed with seven putouts. Gough took the win in five innings with four runs allowed.
The second game started with a single up the middle from Provencal in a double RBI to bring
Taylor Chatowsky (North Kingston, R.I.) and
Francesca Cioffi (Brewster, N.Y.) home for RWU in the bottom of the second inning.
The Hawks did not keep the lead for long with a single to right field from Cushman and an RBI from Gough to give the Anchorman three runs in the top of the third inning. RIC did not stop here with a double to left field from Burgess and a single to left field from Katrina Kazen (Warwick, R.I.) to extend their lead to four with the score at 6-2.
In the bottom of the third inning, Cioffi doubled to left center in a double RBI to bring
Alexandra Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.) home and cut RIC's lead to three.
With a walk from Wainwright in the top of the fourth, Chiaverini scored for RIC to put the score at 7-3. This was followed with a double to right center from Burgess in a double RBI to advance Gough and Cushman home. The Hawks could not score a run and went into the fifth inning.
RIC dominated the rest of the game with a fly out to left field in a sacrifice fly from Simmons to bring Shaelyn DaSilveira (Seekonk, Mass.) home in the top of the fifth. Stealing second base, Chiaverini brought DeAngelis home unearned. This was followed with six more unearned runs and the final score at 17-3.
Cioffi led the Hawks with one run, two RBI and six putouts.
Lia Nocella (Tyngsboro, Mass.) took the loss with five strikeouts and five runs allowed in 2.2 innings.
Cushman, Gough and Dasilveir led the Anchormen with three runs and one RBI. Cushman also had three putouts. Fleming took the win with three strikeouts in five innings.
Roger Williams (6-9) will host Johnson and Wales tomorrow. Rhode Island College (6-5) will travel to Plymouth State in a doubleheader this Saturday.
