Softball Takes Walk Off Win Against JWU

BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Softball Team took victory against Johnson and Wales University this Wednesday afternoon, 4-3.
 
The Hawks found home first in the bottom of the first inning with a single to shortstop in an RBI from Ellie Fleming (Marshfield, Mass.) to bring Elizabeth Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.) home. In the top of the second inning, all three of the Wildcats batters grounded out.
 
JWU tied the game at 1-1 after an RBI from Megan Antaya (Somerset, Mass.) to advance Devin Scales (Mount Airy, Md.) home. In the bottom of the fifth inning, RWU earned the lead again with a run from Tara Chatowsky (North Kingston, R.I.) after an RBI from Fleming.
 
In the top of the seventh inning, Scales doubled to right field and advanced to third on a throw. The RBI brought Kayla McKinnon (Cambridge, Mass.) home and tied the game again at 2-2. The Wildcats then gained the lead with an unearned run from Scales after Antaya reached first on an error.
 
RWU did not give up in the bottom of the inning with an RBI from Fleming to advance Rachel Wandzilak (West Islip, N.Y.) home and put the score at 3-3. The Hawks took the win after Michaela Federico (Walpole, Mass.) scored because of a single to left field from Amanda Boulter (Wakefield, Mass.).
 
Alexandra Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.) led the Hawks with 11 putouts. Fleming took the win with two strikeouts in five innings and three RBIs.
 
Scales led the Wildcats with two runs and one RBI. Jennings took the loss with three runs allowed in 3.2 innings.
 
Roger Williams (7-10) will head to Gordon College in a doubleheader this Saturday. Johnson and Wales (8-9) will face Roger Williams again this Tuesday in Providence.
