WENHAM, Mass.—The Roger Williams Softball team split a doubleheader with Gordon College 0-2 and 4-2 on a Saturday afternoon.
In game one, the Scots took the lead 1-0 in the bottom of the third when Megan Jenkerson (McDonough, Ga.) singled up the middle scoring teammate Laura Bieren (Groton, Mass.).
They added an additional run in the bottom of the fourth when Caitlin Catalanotto (Kingston, N.H.) hit a solo homerun to increase their lead by two.
The Hawks tried to battle back the whole game but could not execute.
Tara Chatowsky (North Kingstown, R.I.) went 3 for 3 offensively with two singles and a triple while
Madi Francis (Coventry, Conn.) and
Alexis Romano (Shirley, N.Y.) also chipped in with one hit.
Alyssa Murray (Green Brook, N.J.) was on the mound for the Hawks and earned two strikeouts only giving up one walk and three hits.
The Hawks collected five hits while the Scots only had three.
In game two, the Scots received their first run in the top of the second when Emma DuBois (Barrington, N.H.) reached on a fielder's choice so that her teammate could score to earn the lead 1-0.
The Hawks came back in the top of the third when
Sydney Provencal (Cumberland, R.I.) singled through the right side and advanced to second due to a pick off play by the catcher. Tr Chatowsky came up and blasted a double, which was her fourth hit of the day, to score Provencal for a tie game 1-1.
RWU tacked on two more runs in the top of the fourth when
Elizabeth Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.) reached first on an error by the left fielder causing teammates
Ellie Fleming (Marshfield, Mass.) and
Amanda Boulter (Wakefield, Mass.) to score to put them ahead 3-1.
In the top of the fifth, Provencal led off with a double through the right side and Alex Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.) singled through the left side. Fleming was due up next and roped a single scoring Provencal for a 4-1 lead.
The Scots tried to come back in the bottom of the seventh when Rose Shannon (Ashland, Mass.) singled up the middle scoring one more run but that was it for them offensively and the game was left with a 4-2 win for the Hawks.
On the mound was Fleming who only allowed two runs, four hits, and earned a strikeout.
The Hawks head to Johnson & Wales on Tuesday April 2
nd for a single game at 4:00 p.m.
