BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Baseball Team lost to UMass-Boston this Wednesday afternoon with a final score of 4-1.
A single to left field in an RBI from Boudrias in the top of the first inning brought Nick Herzog (Riverhead, N.Y.) home to get the Beacons on the board first. Neither team scored in the second inning and the game led to an RBI from Nick Palma (Peabody, Mass.) to advance Anthony Cecere (Wakefield, Mass.) home in the top of the third inning to bring their lead to two.
The Hawks scored their first run with a ground out from Eli Camner (Hamden, Conn.) in an RBI for Justin Stone (Blackstone, Mass.) to reach home in the bottom of the third. In the top of the fourth, Charlie Huegi (Sandy Hook, Conn.) singled to left field for the Beacons for Eddie Riley (Quincy, Mass.) to score.
RWU could not find home in the bottom of the inning and UMass-Boston followed with a single to third base from Nico Kydes (Stamford, Conn.) to bring Kyle Boudrias (Medford, Mass.) home. The Hawks went into the bottom of fifth inning down 1-4.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Hawks did not let the Beacons get another run with Ryan Leung (Brookline, Mass.) out at second to Tommy Hobin (Madison, Conn.). Herzog then grounded out in a double play between Hobin, Danny Roth (West Hartford, Conn.) and Brandon Jenkins (East Bridgewater, Mass.).
Both teams struck out in the seventh inning and could not find home the remainder of the game to put the final score at 4-1.
Stone led the Hawks with one run and two putouts. Chris Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) contributed with nine putouts. Kyle Schaefer (Madison, Conn.) took the loss with six strikeouts and four runs allowed.
Boudrias led the Beacons with one run, one RBI and four put outs. Nico Kydes (Stamford, Conn) contributed with eight put outs. Ben Gottesman (Acton, Mass.) took the win with five strikeouts and allowed one run.
Roger Williams (9-14-1) will host Salve Regina this Friday. UMass-Boston (13-8) will head to Babson College tomorrow.
