Baseball Defeats Salve Regina


BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Baseball Team defeated Salve Regina University this Friday afternoon, 11-6.

The Seahawks scored the first run in the top of the second inning with a sacrifice bunt from Anthony Cieszko (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) to bring Michael DeFusco (East Greenwich, R.I.) home. The Hawks struck out in the bottom of the inning, but managed to tie the game in the third with a single to right side from Anthony Dominguez (Chester, N.Y.) to advance Eli Camner (Hamden, Conn.) home.


The fourth inning had a lot of runs starting with a homerun from Tristan Dacey (Wyckoff, N.J.) for Salve. Cieszko then double to right center in a double RBI to advance Sean O'Malley (Darien, Conn.) and Jack Betts (Narragansett, R.I.) to bring their lead to 4-1 The Hawks came back with an RBI from Justin Stone (Blackstone, Mass.) to bring Brandon Jenkins (East Bridgewater, Mass.) home followed with an error by the pitcher to give RWU another run and put the score at 3-4.

 

A double to center field from Camner brought Chris Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) home to tie the game again at 4-4 going into the fifth inning. All three Seahawks struck out in the top of the inning, but the Hawks could not find home.

 

In the next inning, DeFusco walked and was followed with a homerun from O'Malley for Salve to give them two runs and a lead of 6-4. An RBI from Camner brought Stone home for RWU in the bottom of the inning. Dominguez then singled to the left center to bring Roth home and tie the game for the third time at 6-6.

 

The Hawks gained the lead later in the inning with a single to the pitcher from Jenkins. An advance to second on a throw then brought both Ben Bonavita (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Dominguez home to bring their lead to two at 8-6.

 

In the bottom of the seventh, RWU increased their lead with a single from Roth to advance Bosco home. Tommy Hobin (Madison, Conn.) then hit a double RBI to bring Dominguez and Roth home to increase their lead to five.

 

Roger Williams (9-14-1) will head to Western New England University for a doubleheader tomorrow. Salve Regina (16-8) will host Endicott for a doubleheader tomorrow.
