Large Win For Men’s Lacrosse Over Salve

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team took a 19-10 Commonwealth Coast Conference decision over Salve Regina University Wednesday afternoon.

A strong first-half surge pushed the Hawks past the Seahawks. Chris Bova (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Connor Hillemeir (Farmington, Conn.) both scored within the first two minutes of the game for a quick 2-0 Hawk lead. Daniel Civello (Killingworth, Conn.), Jude Marzec (West Islip, N.Y.), and Jared Grier (Quincy, Mass.) all added scores for the Hawks to make it a 5-0 lead with 4:22 left in the first quarter. The Hawks would eventually go up 6-2 at the end of the period.

A man-up goal by Niko Szelest for Salve Regina made it a 6-3 game, but Bova, Marzec, and Peter Navarro (Londonderry, N.H.) all scored to make it 9-3 in RWU's favor. Two quick goals in the eighth minute brought Salve within five, but Marzec and Tim Mullane (Hanover, Mass.) got both of the goals back for RWU to make it an 11-5 halftime lead.

After a man-up goal by Marzec to kick off the third quarter, the Seahawks tallied three straight goals to make it a four-goal game. Both teams traded two goals apiece in the third frame to keep it at four entering the fourth quarter. In the final period, the Hawks outscored Salve 5-0 to put the game away and come away with the win.

Marzec finished with eight points on six goals and two assists, while Grier had five points (3 G, 2 A) and Bova with four (2 G, 2 A). Hillermeir won 26-of-32 faceoffs with a career-high 17 ground balls. Weston Nolan (Falmouth, Maine) had eight saves for RWU in the win.
