Softball Earns Two Wins to Curry

MILTON, Mass.—The Roger Williams Softball team won both games in a doubleheader against Curry College 5-1 and 9-3 on a Saturday afternoon.

In game one, Alyssa Murray (Green Brook, N.J.) got the win earning three strikeouts and only allowing four hits.

The Colonels started off on top earning one run in the bottom of the second from an RBI single to the shortstop by Allison May (West Bridgewater, Mass.).

It wasn't until the top of the sixth that the Hawks answered earning three runs. Alex Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.) led off with a single up the middle while Rachel Wandzilak (West Islip, N.Y.) reached first on an error by the first baseman and stole second. Hailey Prechtel (Glenmont, N.Y.) hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring pinch runner Audrey
Gavin (Old Lyme, Conn.). Next up was Elizabeth Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.) who hit her first season homerun to center field scoring two more for a 3-1 lead.

In the top of the seventh the Hawks tacked on two more runs by A. Lombardo's double down the left field line scoring the Chatwosky sisters, Tara and Taylor (North Kingstown, R.I.) to win the first game 5-1.

Sydney Provencal (Cumberland, R.I.), Murray, and Wandzilak each chipped in with a hit to contribute to the win as well.

In game two, Prechtel received the win earning two strikeouts and only allowing one run.

Provencal started things off for the Hawks in the top of the third by doubling to the right center gap. A. Lombardo and Ellie Fleming (Marshfield, Mass.) both hit singles to eventually bring in two runs.

The Colonels came right back earning two runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 2's.

The Hawks didn't let that stop them as Tr. Chatowsky hit a 2 RBI single to left center to put them ahead 4-2.

RWU scored another two runs in the top of the fifth from Fleming's steal home and E. Lombardo's RBI single to right center.

In the top of the sixth, Tr. Chatowsky laid down an unexpected bunt to third base for a single. A. Lombardo, Pretchel, Bay Naples (Livingston, N.J.), and Francesca Cioffi (Brewster, N.Y.) all hit singles scoring two while Bella Malvinni (Westerly, R.I.) grounded out to first base scoring one more putting the score at 9-2.

Curry earned one more run in the bottom of the sixth but could not get enough to beat RWU as the final score remained 9-3.

The Hawks (12-14) play tomorrow in a doubleheader against Endicott College (18-4) at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m.
