BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Baseball Team shut out Wesleyan University this Tuesday afternoon, 7-0.
In the top of the first inning neither team found home. All three batters for the Cardinals struck out with
Kyle Schaefer (Madison, Conn.) on the mound. The Hawks then did the same with Coleton Reitan (Miller Place, N.Y.) pitching.
RWU was the first on the board in the bottom of the third inning with
George Somers (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) reaching home on a throwing error by Reitan.
Chris Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) then followed with a single to left field and advanced to second on a throwing error to bring both him and
Justin Stone (Blackstone, Mass.) home. The game went into the fourth inning with the Hawks up 3-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, RWU scored another run by
Anthony Dominguez (Chester, N.J.) on a wild pitch. The score froze at 4-0 until the sixth inning when Stone reached first on a throwing error by Jake Alonzo (Haddam, Conn.) to bring
Joey Gulino (Meriden, Conn.) home, unearned.
Despite a single to right field from Ryan Earle (Hanover, Mass.), the Cardinals could not score a run in the top of the seventh. The Hawks increased their lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the inning with an RBI from
Tommy Hobin (Madison, Conn.) to bring
Danny Roth (West Hartford, Conn.) home.
The Hawks did not stop finding home with an RBI from Bosco to give bring Gulino home and score the last run of the game. RWU shut out the Cardinals and took the win 7-0.
Bosco led the Hawks with one run, two RBIs and 10 putouts. Schaeffer took the win with seven strikeouts.
Wes Fritch (Dover, N.J.) and Case Pratt (Rye, N.Y.) led the Cardinals with seven putouts each. Reitan took the loss allowing four runs in three innings.
Roger Williams (11-16-1) will travel to Johnson and Wales University tomorrow. Wesleyan (11-13) will host Williams College this Friday.
