Baseball Falls to Amherst

AMHERST, Mass.—The Roger Williams Baseball team lost 6-3 to Amherst College in a single game on a Tuesday afternoon.

Right off the bat, the Hawks brought in two runs to start the game. Eli Camner (Hamden, Conn.) hit a single to the shortstop and beat the throw to put runners on first and second after Chris Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) was hit by a pitch. Bosco then stole third while Danny Roth (West Hartford, Conn.) stepped up to the plate. Roth hit an RBI single to score the first run followed by Justin Stone's (Blackstone, Mass.) single to left field to plate Camner.

With a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the first, Amherst started to chip away as Chase Henley (Pleasanton, Calif.) hit an RBI single to put the score at 2-1.

In the top of the second, Amherst pitcher Wilson Taylor (San Antonio, Texas) hit his second batter of the game putting him on first.  Bosco then hit a single to get the offense started for RWU. Camner who grounded out to the shortstop got the RBI making it a 3-1 game.

It wasn't until the bottom of the fifth that the Mammoths hit two doubles and a single to score two more runs to tie the game 3-3.

Amherst scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh from a 2 RBI single by Daniel Qin (Issaquah, Wash.) putting them ahead 5-3.

In the top of the eighth inning, Amherst earned another run from a sacrifice fly to end the game 6-3.

Tyler Cedeno (Maynard, Mass.) and Roth earned a couple of hits on the day while Camner three and Tommy Hobin (Madison, Conn.) had one.

RWU (6-10-1) returns to action tomorrow in a single game against Babson College (15-2) at 3:30 p.m.
