BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse Team earned a 12-6 win against Gordon College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game Tuesday evening.
The Hawks found the back of the net first with a goal from
Chris Bova (Ridgefield, Conn.) taking an assist from
Gabe Reale (Fairfield, Conn.) at the 12:41 mark. Ten seconds later,
Connor Hillemeir (Farmington, Conn.) won the draw, went down the field, and scored his first goal of the season to put RWU up 2-0. Then at 9:12,
Andrew Gaffney (Cherry Valley, Mass.) passed the ball to
Jared Grier (Quincy, Mass.) to give the Hawks their third goal in a man-up play.
RWU kept their streak going with a ground ball pickup and unassisted goal from
Tim Mullane (Hanover, Mass.) at 5:44. With less than two minutes to go in the first quarter, Xander Miller (Shelburne, Vt.) assisted Austin Early (Palmyra, Va.) as he shot at goal while falling to the ground and reached the back of the net to give the Scots their first goal, making it 4-1.
Twenty seconds into the second quarter, Gordon got off to a fast start with an unassisted goal from Tytus Moen (Agawam, Mass.). Jay Gallipo (Dover, N.H.) later saved two shots from RWU to keep them out of the net for most of the quarter. At the 3:50 mark, Bova took a pass from Mullane to put the score at 5-2.
With less than two minutes left, the Scots fired two shots on goal and made both of them. Jacob Hryzan (Lakeville, Mass.) and Nate Distasio (North Reading, Mass.) both contributed goals to have the game go into the third quarter with a score of 5-4 Roger Williams.
At the 13:35 mark, Grier scored for the second time taking an assist from Mullane. The Hawks took seven shots in the next ten minutes but could not score until
Peter Navarro (Londonderry, N.H.) took an assist from Bova with just over three minutes remaining in the quarter. Before the quarter ended, RWU scored two times more with unassisted goals from Mullane and
Abdullah Nassif (Hanover, Mass.) to put the score at 9-4 going into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Navarro assisted
Jude Marzec (West Islip, N.Y.) at the 13:04 mark followed 20 seconds later with a goal from Grier to put the score at 12-4. After three shots on goal from Gordon, Early found the back of the net after taking an assist from Karl Deckert (Gloucester, Mass.). After a faceoff won by the Scots, Hryzan scored the last goal of the game to put the final score at 12-6 and the Hawks taking home the win.
Bova and Mullane led the Hawks with four points on two goals and two assists each.
Brian Brockwell had four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Weston Nolan (Falmouth, Maine) made four saves in the win.
Hryzan and Early led the Scots with two goals each. Moen had two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Gallipo took the loss with 11 saves on the night.
On Saturday, Roger Williams (8-4, 2-1 CCC) will travel to University of New England and Gordon College (3-6, 0-4 CCC) goes to Curry.
