BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team posted a 17-12 Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over the University of New England Saturday afternoon.
Chris Bova (Ridgefield, Conn.) struck first for the Hawks with a goal less than two minute into the game.
Jared Grier (Quincy, Mass.) later made it a 2-2 game at the 8:02 mark but a man-up goal with 1:26 left gave the Nor'Easters a 3-2 lead after the first quarter.
The second quarter saw both teams trade goals back and forth in the first four minutes. However Roger Williams ended the quarter on a 3-0 run in the final seven minutes including two goals from Bova. The Hawks took a 7-5 lead going into halftime.
Grier began the half with a man-up goal before two goals from UNE brought the Nor'Easters within one. Yet the Hawks used four goals over a six-minute stretch to take a five-goal lead, eventually going into the fourth quarter up 12-8.
In the fourth quarter, Roger Williams put the game away halfway through the fourth, with goals from Bova, Grier,
Tim Mullane (Hanover, Mass.), and
Scott Trudel (Manchester, Vt.). RWU held on to their lead to eventually go home with the five-goal win.
Bova finished with a game-high six goals, while
Jude Marzec (West Islip, N.Y.) added four points on a goal and three assists.
Brian Brockwell (Duxbury, Mass.) added two caused turnovers and four ground balls.
Weston Nolan (Falmouth, Maine) made nine saves in the win.
Roger Williams (9-4, 3-1 CCC) will head to Salve Regina on Wednesday.
