BRISTOL, R.I.—The Roger Williams Softball team split with Eastern Nazarene College 7-0 and 2-1 on a Tuesday afternoon.
In game one,
Lia Nocella (Tyngsboro, Mass.) was on the mound for the Hawks until relief pitcher
Ellie Fleming (Marshfield, Mass.) came in during the fourth inning.
In the top of the first, center fielder
Sydney Provencal (Cumberland, R.I.) made a perfect throw to home plate to end the inning and prevent ENC from scoring their first run of the game.
The Lions then scraped together two runs in the top of the third from two doubles, a single, and an error to give them the early 2-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth, ENC tacked on three more runs following another two in the top of the fifth to complete the score at 7-0.
Katrina Goria (Wyckoff, N.J.) went 2 for 3 in game one, while
Elizabeth Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.) and
Audrey Gavin (Old Lyme, Conn.) also chipped in with a hit but it wasn't enough to win it for the Hawks.
The second game was closer than the first, with a final score of 2-1.
The Hawks found home first in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI single to the left side from Provencal that also advanced E. Lombardo.
Alyssa Murray (Green Brook, N.J.) singled up the middle of the field in order for Provencal to reach home to give them a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth inning,
Bella Malvinni (Westerly, R.I.) made an unbelievable diving catch from Kori Bow (Shaftsbury, Vt.) to keep their lead at two.
The Lions did not get a run until the top of the sixth with a sacrifice fly from Rebecca Ashman (Havre de Grace, Md.) to bring Kiley Ozaki (Ewa Beach, Hawaii) home to put the score at 1-2. Despite a single from
Alexis Romano (Shirley, N.Y.), the Hawks did not get any more runs on the board along with the Lions, which resulted in a 2-1 final score.
E. Lombardo contributed for the Hawks with one run and one put out. Provencal also had one run. Murray took the win with five strikeouts and one run allowed.
Ozaki led the Lions with one run and five putouts. Meghan Stanley (Bedford, Mass.) took the loss with one strikeout and two runs allowed.
