A. Lombardo Walks Off in Game One Against FSU

BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams Softball team split in a doubleheader against Framingham State this Wednesday afternoon, taking the first game in overtime with a final score of 4-3 and losing the second game 13-9.

In game one, Ellie Fleming (Marshfield, Mass.) started off on the mound but was relieved by Lia Nocella (Tyngsboro, Mass.) who recorded the win with only allowing three hits, one run, two walks, and earning one strikeout.

The Rams took the lead in the top of the second from an RBI single and an unearned run from a fielder's choice to put the score at 2-0.

In the bottom of the third, the Hawks cut the lead in half when Tara Chatowsky (North Kingstown, R.I.) hit an RBI single to left field that plated Rachel Wandzilak (West Islip, N.Y.).

It wasn't until the bottom of the sixth that RWU tied the game at 2's from Amanda Boulter's (Wakefield, Mass.) RBI single that plated Alexa Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.).

Going into extra innings with a girl on second base, Farrah Adam (West Springfield, Mass.) hit a sacrifice bunt that moved the runner over to third. Laela Pepin (Acushnet, Mass.) was due up next and hit a double to bring home one run to take the lead 3-2.

However, the Hawks were not done yet by any means as A. Lombardo roped a walk off double to the left center gap to bring home two runs and win the game for the Hawks 4-3.

In the second game, the Rams were determined to get on the board in the first inning leading 3-0.

The Hawks found home in the bottom of the second starting with a double to center field from Alyssa Murray (Green Brook, N.J.). To tie the game at 3-3, Alexis Romano (Shirley, N.Y.) reached first on an error to bring Murray home. With Elizabeth Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.) on first and Romano on second, Sydney Provencal (Cumberland, R.I.) singled up the middle to bring Romano home and give RWU the lead at 4-3.

In the top of the third inning, Pepin tripled to right center for FSU to advance Salisbury and tie the game at 4-4. To give them the lead, Victoria Ziner (Easton, Mass.) reached first on an error to bring Pepin home.

At the bottom of the inning, the Hawks tied the game again with an RBI from Murray to bringing teammate A. Lombardo home. RWU then took a significant lead from there with Murray scoring on a wild pitch, followed by an RBI double from E. Lombardo to bring Katrina Goria (Wyckoff, N.J.) and Romano home to bring the score to 8-5.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Rams cut the lead to two with a single down right field from Adam to bring Moody home. The Hawks did not find home, and the teams went into the fifth inning with the score at 8-6.

To tie the game for the fourth time at 8-8, Camille Desrochers (Westford, Mass.) doubled to right center to bring both Kirsten Dick (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Ziner home. The Rams took the lead for the second time in the game with a single up the middle from Salisbury to advance Desrochers.

In the top of the sixth, FSU tacked on four more runs for a 13-8 lead until the Hawks gained another in the bottom of the seventh from an RBI double by Murray to take the loss at 13-9.

The Hawks face University of New England on Saturday April 27th in a doubleheader at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m.
