WOOSTER, Ohio — Roger Williams University freshman pitcher Kyle Schaefer (Madison, Conn.) has been honored by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association as NCBWA Division III Rookie of the Week.

Schaefer was brilliant in the Hawks' 7-0 non-conference victory over Wesleyan University last Tuesday. Schaefer logged his first career shutout, during which he scattered two hits over nine innings of work. The right-hander struck out seven and walked three. He didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning.

Schaefer becomes the first player in Roger Williams history to be honored as NCBWA Rookie of the Week.
