Baseball Takes Loss to MIT

BRISTOL, R.I.—The Roger Williams Baseball team lost 19-6 against MIT on a Monday afternoon.

The Hawks came out strong in the bottom of the first earning three runs. Justin Stone (Blackstone, Mass.) started off the inning singling to the shortstop. After a walk and a throwing error, Danny Roth (West Hartford, Conn.) hit a slow roller to third base beating out the throw scoring one following another error in the field bringing in Chris Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) home as well. Anthony Dominguez (Chester, N.J.) singled to the shortstop and then Tommy Hobin (Madison, Conn.) laid down a bunt to the pitcher scoring Roth for a 3-0 lead.

MIT answered right away scoring three runs to tie the game 3-3 in the top of the second.

It was a battle in the beginning of the game as both teams continued to score each inning. In the bottom of the second, RWU took the lead again starting off with Joey Gulino's (Meriden, Conn.) double to left field. Stone hit his second hit of the game through the left side to advance Gulino to third. After a hit by pitch, the bases were juiced for Elijah Camner (Hamden, Conn.) who reached on a fielder's choice to score one. Later in the inning, a throwing error by the catcher scored Camner for the Hawks to take the 5-3 lead.

However, in the top of the third, the Beavers tacked on four more runs from Thomas Allison's (Kingwood, Texas) two run homer and Ethan Rolland's (Burke, Va.) two RBI double to center field.

The Hawks could only produce one in the bottom of the third when Stone hit a double from a hard hit that deflected off the pitcher into the outfield that scored Ben Bonavita (East Longmeadow, Mass.).

From the fourth inning on, MIT was able to collect 12 more runs throughout the game.

Stone went 3 for 5 on the day and Gulino went 2 for 4. Bosco, Roth, Dominguez, and Hobin chipped in with a hit as well.

The Hawks (16-17-1) play their last regular season game today against Mass.-Maritime (18-16-1) at 3:30 p.m.
