BRISTOL, R.I.—The Roger Williams Softball team split a doubleheader against Wentworth Institute of Technology 9-1, 5-6 on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

In game one,
Elizabeth Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.) hit a two RBI single up the middle to plate teammates Alex Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.) and
Alyssa Murray (Green Brook, N.J.) for an early 2-0 lead.

In the top of the fourth, shortstop
Sydney Provencal (Cumberland, R.I.) made an incredible leaping catch from Ceilidh Higgins's (Medway, Mass.) line drive to stop a base hit from occurring.

Later in the fifth, the Leapords tried to comeback scoring one run in a first and third situation.
Micaela Pohl (Middleboro, Mass.) caught the runner at first stealing with a perfect throw down to second but that led the runner on third to score their second run of the game.

In that same inning, the Hawks earned another when pitcher Kayla DeMedeiros (South Dartmouth, Mass.) walked in a run to increase the lead by two (3-1).

RWU had a great sixth inning earning five runs with singles from
Madi Francis (Coventry, Conn.), E. Lombardo,
Michaela Federico (Walpole, Mass.), A. Lombardo, and a double from Murray to give the Hawks a 9-1 win.

Murray recorded the win allowing five hits, one run, and earning one strikeout.

In game two,
Hailey Prechtel (Glenmont, N.Y.) was on the mound to start allowing six hits, six runs, and earning one strikeout as well.

The Leapords came to play right off the bat in the second game earning four runs to take the lead.

In the bottom of the third, it looked like the Hawks had a chance to catch up when Provencal hit a two RBI single up the middle to record a 4-2 score.

However, Wentworth came right back in the fourth scoring two more due to Brionna Myers (Seabrook, N.H.) single, Rylee Rehders (Moreno Valley, Calif.) double, and an error by Hawk's pitcher at the time
Lia Nocella (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and E. Lombardo to give them a 6-2 lead.

It wasn't until the bottom of the seventh that RWU tried to rally when
Rachel Wandzilak (West Islip, N.Y.) walked, E. Lombardo and
Alexis Romano (Shirley, N.Y.) both singled to second base scoring one run. Provencal hit another single loading the bases for Murray who then reached first on an error to score the second run for the Hawks.
Ellie Fleming (Marshfield, Mass.) was up next and reached on a fielder's choice scoring Romano for the third run. Unfortunately RWU couldn't earn anymore and the game ended at 5-6.

The Hawks (10-11) play another doubleheader against Western New England University tomorrow at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m.
