SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—The Roger Williams Softball team lost two to Western New England University 3-4 and 3-7 on a Saturday afternoon.

In game one, the Golden Bears earned the early 1-0 lead from an RBI single by Dina DiBlasio (Norwalk, Conn.).

In the top of the third, the Hawks scored on an error to tie the game at 2's.

Jamie Cookingham (Warner, N.H.) hit a two run homer to center field causing WNE to take the lead again in the bottom of the fourth 4-2.

The Golden Bears tacked on one more in the fifth when Emily Cooney (Berlin, Conn.) hit an RBI single to put the scoreboard at 5-2.

The Hawks tried to rally in the sixth when Elizabeth Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.) led off the inning with a double to left field. Due up next was Sydney Provencal (Cumberland, R.I.) who then hit a single to right field. With one out, Alexis Romano (Shirley, N.Y.) grounded out to third base but did what she had to do to score E. Lombardo.

Lefty Tara Chatowsky (North Kingstown, R.I.) then came up and doubled scoring Provencal to end the game 5-4.

Micaela Pohl (Middleboro, Mass.), Madi Francis (Coventry, Conn.), and Rachel Wandzilak (West Islip, N.Y.) all chipped in with a hit as well.

Lia Nocella (Tyngsboro, Mass.) was on the mound for the Hawks allowing four hits, four runs, two walks, and earning four strikeouts.

In game two, Ellie Fleming (Marshfield, Mass.) started off on the mound for the Hawks allowing six hits, seven runs, one walk, and one strikeout.

RWU scored in the first inning when Alex Lombardo (Thomaston, Conn.) walked with the bases loaded to go ahead 1-0.

The Golden Bears answered right away earning four due to errors in the field to put them back in the lead 4-1.

Both teams scored a run in the second inning when E. Lombardo hit her first homerun of the season over the left field fence. An RBI single from Aimee Kistner (Taunton, Mass) scored her teammate for a 5-2 score.

WNE brought in two more runs in the bottom of the third to go up 7-2.

The Hawks tried to chip away in the fourth earning a run by Francis's RBI hit 7-3 but they could not come away with the win.
