SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—The Roger Williams Men's Tennis team lost in the CCC Semifinals to Western New England University 5-1 on a Wednesday afternoon.
During doubles play, No. 1's
Brendan White (Old Lyme, Conn.) and
Dan Tocco (East Quogue, N.Y.) came out on top beating opponents David Kalmer (Slingerlands, N.Y.) / Justin Kohut (South Windsor, Conn.) 8-6. No. 2's
Thomas O'Leary (North Easton, Mass.) /
Miles Conlin (Branford, Conn.) took a tough loss to Luke Surawski (Wethersfield, Conn.) / Hippolyte Bonnet (Lille, France) 8-1.
Jake Cole (Sterling, Va.) and
Tyler Cain's (Montpelier, Vt.) match was extremely close with RWU in the lead for the majority of the match until Michael Tran (West Haven, Conn.) / Max Gordon (Middleton, Mass.) came back to win 8-6.
Going into singles play at 2-1 Golden Bears, there was still hope for the Hawks as their lineup was White, Tocco, O'Leary, Cole, Matt Feldman (Duxbury, Mass.), and
Arlex Correa (Lynnfield, Mass.). Unfortunately the Golden Bears were on their A game as they shutout RWU. Tocco was the first to finish with scores of 6-1, 6-0. Soon after was O'Leary vs Kohut in a 6-3, 6-3 loss. The last match to finish and give WNE the win was Cole vs Surawski who was defeated 6-2, 6-3.
That concludes the Hawk's 2019 season but they look forward to their offseason to get better for next year.
