BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams Baseball Team beat Salve Regina in game one of the CCC championship series this Friday, 6-4.
All three Seahawks struck out in the top of the first inning with pitcher
Connor Hewlette (Deer Park, N.Y.) on the mound. The Hawks were the first to reach home with an RBI from
Anthony Dominguez (Chester, N.J.) to bring home
Eli Camner (Hamden, Conn.) With
Danny Roth (West Hartford, Conn.) on third,
Tommy Hobin (Madison, Conn.) singled to left center to put RWU up 2-0.
In the top of the inning, Hobin doubled down the right field to bring Dominguez home.
The Seahawks found home in the top of the fourth after a single to right field from Anthony Cieszko (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) to advance Zack Smith (New Canaan, Conn.) and put the score at 1-3.
Salve took the lead in the top of the seventh with a single down left field from Madden Ward (Clinton, Conn.) for Zack Barlok (Chesire, Conn.) to score. Salve overturned a call that then lead to a double to right field from Sean O'Malley (Darien, Conn.) to give Salve the lead, 4-3.
In the bottom of the eighth the bases were loaded with
Justin Stone up at bat. With a double to right field,
Ben Bonavita (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Hobin scored to take back RWU's lead at 5-4.The Hawks did not stop here after a sacrifice fly from
Chris Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) to advance
Tyler Brett (Hebron, Conn.). RWU took the win with a final score of 6-4.
Hobin led RWU with one run and two RBIs. Brett contributed with eight runs. Hewlette took the win with four strikeouts.
Smith led Salve with two runs. O'Malley contributed with seven putouts. Will Ginsberg (Sharon, Mass.) took the loss with one strikeout and three runs allowed.
RWU and Salve will play tomorrow in Bristol, R.I. at 11:30 A.M.
