How It Happened
Alex Coppinger set things off for the Hawks with a goal six minutes into the game. She found the loose ball off of a deflected shot by
Hannah Gaffney (Bolton, Mass.) and put it in goal for a 1-0 RWU.
With just under seven minutes in the second quarter,
Sydney McCarthy (Little Falls, N.Y.) tapped a pass backwards to
Morgan Foley for her first collegiate goal to put the Hawks up 2-0.
Those two goals would be all Roger Williams needed, as the team's defense made things difficult for Manhattanville all game long. The Valiants' best chance to score came two minutes into the third quarter. Arnise King (Wilmington, Del.) had a one-on-one opportunity against Hawk keeper
Callie Flanagan. King put up a shot at point-blank range, but Flanagan was able to make a kick save to deny Manhattanville's chance to score.
