How It Happened
For Senior Day, the program honored seniors
Ian Carmichael,
Bryan Donovan, and
Rich Pugliese, as well as team managers Megan Daniel and Scott MacDonald for their dedication to RWU Men's Basketball over the past four years.
Roger Williams held the momentum early on in the game. After trailing 2-4 in the first two minutes of the game, RWU rolled off an 11-0 run to take a nine point lead. A pair of
James Clarkson free throws would give RWU its first double-digit lead of the game (17-7) halfway into the opening period.
Wentworth pulled within six multiple times in the half, but couldn't come closer than that margin in the first. Roger Williams would eventually take a 36-27 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Hawks were able to build their lead to 14 three minutes in (44-30). RWU appeared to be on its way to an easy win, but the Leopards began to rally halfway through the period. A 12-0 Wentworth run quickly erased the Hawks' advantage, as Wentworth pulled within two with 13:27 to play.
The game would remain a single-digit lead in RWU's favor until Wentworth eventually took its first lead of the half on a layup by Noah Bice with 1:35 left (68-67). RWU was able to go back on top with a layup by
Drew Hart (Cheshire, Conn.) and later went up by four on a wide-open corner three by
Rich Pugliese with just under a minute to play. That should would help keep RWU in the lead as the Hawks held on late.
