BRISTOL, R.I. — The third-seeded Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team advanced to the Commonwealth Coast Conference Semifinals with a 6-0 win over number-six Western New England University in the CCC Quarterfinals on Tuesday afternoon at the RWU Tennis Courts. With the win, the Hawks advance to the semifinals round for the 18^th consecutive season.
 
Hawk Highlights
Roger Williams started off on the right foot during doubles play by jumping out to a quick, 3-0 advantage, and it started at the top. Alessia Cahoon (Dedham, Mass.) and Emma Place (Francestown, N.H.) swept through Aliza McLeish (Chicopee, Mass.) and Arriana Hasiuk (Chicopee, Mass.), 8-0. Soon thereafter, in the second flight, Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) rolled past Kaylin Gibbons (Berkley, Mass.) and Janet Martinelli (Vernon, Conn.), 8-2. The matchup at doubles #3 pitting Kate Hardy (Southington, Conn.) and Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) against Hailey MacDonald (West Springfield, Mass.) and Jennifer Arling (Cromwell, Conn.) took the longest, but in the end, the hosts came away with an 8-4 win.
 
With the postseason being played in a first-to-five format, the Hawks needed just two more wins to advance, but as chance would have it, they got a third. Place took care of McLeish in the top flight for RWU, 6-1, 6-0 to get the Hawks to four. After that, two different games completed at the same time, each resulting in a Roger Williams victory to get the hosts to five and beyond. Cahoon beat Hasiuk, 6-0, 6-3 while McCarthy got past Arling 6-1, 6-0 to claim the win. If the match continued, RWU was on pace to pile on more. In singles #3, Ferraro was leading Eiren Klesczewski (Suffield, Conn.), 6-1, 2-1. In the fourth flight, Alexa DiCesare (Norwood, Mass.) held a 6-2, 2-1 edge on Sydney Lewis (Goffstown, N.H.). Finally, Hardy was about to finish off Michelle McDermott (East Hampton, Mass.), but the match concluded with her in front, 6-0, 5-0.
