DUDLEY, Mass. — The Roger Williams Women's Tennis team took the final two singles matches to defeat Nichols in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Semifinals and advance to the CCC Championship match.
 
Hawk Highlights
The Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead with an 8-5 victory by Alessia Cahoon (Dedham, Mass.) and Emma Place (Francestown, N.H.) over Kara Stankewitz (Cologne, Germany) and IsaBella Winter (Nokomis, Fla.) at #1 doubles. Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) extended the Hawk lead to 2-0 with an 8-4 win at #2 against Kelley Carlin (Brewster, Mass.) and Antonia Carrero (Hamburg, Germany). At #3, Kate Hardy (Southington, Conn.) and Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) almost completed the doubles sweep for Roger Williams against Jordan Knowles (Schenectady, N.Y.) and Johanna Schroeder (Mexico City, Mexico), but the Bison were able to get on the board taking the match 8-7 (8-6).
 
At singles, Carrero tied the match up at two apiece with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at #1 singles, with Schroeder giving the Bison the 3-2 lead with a 6-0, 6-1 win over DiCesare at #4. McCarthy came back with a 6-1, 6-2 win at #5 to tie the match at three. Cahoon and Stankewitz were locked in a battle at #2, but Stankewitz notched a 7-6 (8-6), 7-5 win to bring Nichols within one point of the match.
 
Ferraro powered through at #3 to earn a 6-4, 7-5 win at #3 to tie things up at 4-4. The berth to the championship would come down to #6 singles between Santoro and Camila Magrin (Franca, São Paulo). Magrin took the opening set 7-5 before Santoro came back to take set two by the same score. In the third set, Santoro dominated Magrin 6-0 to punch the Hawks' ticket to the title match.
