Men’s Soccer Suffers First CCC Setback To Endicott

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team fell to Endicott College, 2-0 at Hempstead Stadium on Saturday night. The loss was the fourth time the Hawks have been shutout this season and snapped their abbreviated two-game winning streak.

With the loss, the Hawks suffer their first setback in Commonwealth Coast Conference play this season as they fell to 4-5-2 overall and 2-1-0 against CCC foes. Meanwhile the Gulls improve to 3-4-2, 2-0-1 against CCC competition.

How It Happened
Endicott opened the scoring in the sixth minute. Keevan Delgado chipped a pass through the Hawks defense to Jason Brodeur on the left side of 18-yard box. He went across the crease to the bottom right side of the net to open the scoring. It was Brodeur's second of the season.

The Gulls tacked on another in the 28th minute. After forcing a turnover at mid-pitch, Tiago Frazao attacked down the middle of the field before sending a pass through to Brodeur at a similar spot from where he scored his first goal. This time he elevated a rocket off his left foot, once again to the right side of the net, for his second score of the contest and third of the year.

Despite trailing on the scoreboard, the Hawks outshot Endicott, 7-6 in the first half. However, the Gulls had more shots on goal, 3-2.

Roger Williams attempted to mount a comeback in the second half, taking six shots including four on goal. However, Zach Regulbuto was up to the task for Endicott to preserve the shutout.

Overall, in the contest, RWU did outshoot the hosts, 13-12, and had more shots on goal, 6-4. The Gulls received more corner kicks, 5-3 while the fouls were even with eight per side.

Coach's Corner
Saturday was a hard fought game with two good teams battling it out. I thought it was a very competitive high intensity CCC game where both teams played well. Both teams had great chances throughout the match, unfortunately Endicott finished theirs and we were not able to put ours past their keeper. There were a lot of positives we could take from the game despite the result, and we hope to be able to get another crack at them in the playoffs. We look forward to bouncing back this week against Rhode Island College and University of New England.

What's Next
The Hawks return to Bayside Field, where they have gone 3-1-0 on the season, and will host Rhode Island College on Tuesday afternoon. Start time is set for 4:00 PM.
