BRISTOL, R.I. – For the first time since 2014 and the 16
th time in program history, the Roger Williams University Men's Cross Country team won the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship with a first-place team finish at the eight-kilometer CCC Championship race at Western New England University on Saturday. The Hawks put six runners in the top-15 on the day to earn All-CCC honors.
RWU blew out the other eight teams at the championship race, finishing with a team score of 35 on the day, 20 points ahead of second-place Suffolk University. Gordon College rounded out the top-three with a team score of 93.
Ryan Shea (Andover, Mass.) led the charge coming in third individually with a time of 27:12. He was joined in the top-ten by
Alexander Kalber (Middletown, Conn.) who finished fifth with a time of 27:19,
Raffi Manzo (North Smithfield, R.I.) who placed seventh after running the 8K in 27:28, and
Ethan Boivin (Tolland, Conn.) who finished eighth with a time of 27:33.
Luke Gillett (Wyoming, R.I.) rounded out the scoring with a 12
th place finish after running the race in 27:58.
Luke Strand (Hauppauge, N.Y.) also earned all-conference recognition despite not even contributing to the Hawks' team score on the afternoon. His time of 27:59 earned him a 14
th place finish individually, a rank that would be top-three for any other team.
