How it Happened:
The Hawks came out of the gate aggressive to start the match, where they found a steady and dominant time of possession; limiting the Nor'Easters' ability to get the ball over midfield.
After a few attempts to score from the Hawks were sent back,
Justin Horvath (Stratford, CT.) handled the ball in front of the net at the top of the six-yard box after receiving a pass from captain
Austin Hilger (Old Saybrook, CT.). Horvath chipped his shot into the bottom left corner for the score, and the Hawks first goal of the day.
Their second scoring opportunity came shortly after. A chip pass from the right side of the field caused UNE's goalie Ethan Dispoto (Ringwood, NJ.) to move up in the box.
Jack Wildermann (Madison, CT.) took advantage slid the ball right past Dispoto and tucked it into the bottom right of the net, moving the score to 2-0.
In the 28
th minute left to play in the first half,
Javi Beltran (Madrid, Spain) got in on the action. A shot attempt from Wildermann was saved by the goalkeeper but the save rebounded over to Beltran. He proceeded to chip the ball over everyone and increased the score to 3-0 before the end of the half.
Early in the second half, the Hawks came out aggressive once again, taking control of possession and looking for scoring opportunities. In the midst of an attack,
Jack Wetzel (Northport, NY.) was tripped up in the box while chasing down a through pass. The Hawks received a penalty kick, and Beltran went low left to set the Hawks up with a 4-0 lead, and his second goal of the game.
The final goal of the game came in the middle of the second half. Hilger continued his strong day as a playmaker by feeding the ball to Horvath at the top of the six-yard box. Horvath moved to his left, got a step, took his shot, and rocketed the ball into the bottom right corner of the net; increasing the score, and concluding the scoring in a 5-0 Hawks win over UNE.
The Hawks held possession for most of the match, allowing just one shot on goal in garbage time while taking 20 shots of their own, including 11 on goal in the contest.
Coach's Corner
This game was a great performance from our team. We knew how important it was to get three points at home in the CCC and our team really came ready to play, as seen on the scoreboard at half time. It was great to have two-goal performances from
Justin Horvath and
Javi Beltran, along with a shutout from
John Padavano. We are hoping to keep this momentum going in league against Nichols on Tuesday and Western New England on Friday. These are a vital six points in the league standings and hopefully we can continue to get three points each game
