BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team secured a 3-1 win against the UMass-Boston Beacons but fell to Springfield College 1-3 in a tri-match.

How It Happened
Roger Williams and UMass-Boston started off the first match in a seemingly back and forth battle. The Hawks were able to hold the lead in the entirety of the first set. The Hawks had a 20-9 lead at one point and then came away with the first win, 25-15.
The second set started off with a service ace from
Allie Welch (Marlborough, Conn.) to gain the momentum for the Hawks on the offensive end. This set was similar to the first set as RWU maintained the lead for the duration of the set. A kill from
Tori Melanson (North Attleboro, Mass.) secured the 25-18 win for the Hawks.
The Beacons came out ready to play in the third set. Aleks Qose (Athens, Greece) had a kill to tie up the set at 5-5 after the Beacons were down 1-5. An RWU timeout was called to try and get the Hawks back on track as they were down for the first time of the day with the score 7-10. UMass-Boston held the lead the rest of the way and was able to come out victorious with the 25-21 win.
Set four started in the Beacon's favor, but an ace from Melanson tied the set up at 3 each. From there the Hawks would go on a 12-3 run, going up 15-6. RWU was dominant the rest of the way and able to win the set 25-16.

How It Happened
Roger Williams and Springfield College started the set in what looked like to be an even match up. The two teams went point for point for the majority of the set. Springfield would go on a six-point scoring run with a kill by Sara Labadorf (Huntersville, N.C.) making the score 17-11, in favor of the Pride. Springfield would come out with the win in the first set, 25-18.
The second set was extremely similar to the first as Springfield remained strong. The Pride scored five of the first six points. A late kill by Pickard made it 6-13 but it would not be enough to get the Hawks heading in the right direction. Springfield's dominant presence helped them take the 25-16 win.
The Hawks came to play in the third set as they seemed to have their best showing of the match. The two teams went back and forth in the beginning but three straight kills by
Katherine Pickard helped the Hawks get ahead in the score for the rest of the set. Welch had the final kill of the set to earn the 25-22 win.
The fourth set started off in RWU's favor as they were coming in hot after their win from the previous set. The Hawks held the lead until Sara Labadorf (Huntersville, N.C.) earned an ace to tie it up at 12. The game stayed close but it would head in Springfield's favor late. The Hawks fought all the way, but ultimately fell 25-20.
