Men’s Soccer Setback By Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team got shutout by Wheaton (Mass.) College, 4-0, at Keefe Field on Saturday night. Four different players scored for the Lyons including Avery Santoro (North Chatham, Mass.) who had a goal and an assist in the win.
 
For the Hawks, their first win of the season remains elusive as they fall to 0-2-2 on the season while Wheaton improves to 3-1-0.
 
Jack Avellar (Orleans, Mass.) got the start and net and made eight saves allowing four goals took his first loss of the season falling to 0-1-2. For the Lyons, Diego Medina (Yonkers, N.Y.) got the start and made a pair of saves in the shutout effort to improve to 3-1 on the year.

How It Happened
Roger Williams kept Wheaton in check until the 40th minute when Alex Nickerson (York, Maine) scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Avery Santoro (North Chatham, Mass.). Just under three minutes later, it was Santoro's turn to score notching his first goal of the year in the 43rd minute giving Wheaton a 2-0 advantage.
 
The Lyons outshot Roger Williams 9-5 in the first half including 7-1 in shots on frame.
 
In the second half, Wheaton tacked on two more with goals from Charlie Stinger (Medford, Ore.) and Alasdar Ferrier (Concord, N.H.). It was the first career goal for Ferrier and the second of the season for Stringer.
 
Overall, the Hawks were outshot 18-5 including 12-2 in shots on goal. Additionally, Wheaton had more corner kicks with nine against four for Roger Williams.
 
What's Next
The Hawks finally have their home-opener as they host Clark College on Sunday afternoon with kick-off set for 1:00 PM.
