BRISTOL, R.I. – For the second consecutive day, the Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team swept the competition and earned a 9-0 victory over UMass-Boston on Thursday night at the RWU Tennis Courts. It was the first time the Hawks faced off against the Beacons since 2003 and they rolled through their guests to improve to 7-1 on the season.
 
Hawk Highlights
While not as dominant as their performance on Wednesday, RWU did sweep all the matchups in the match. Beginning in doubles #1, Emma Place (Francestown, N.H.) and Alessia Cahoon (Dedham, Mass.) defeated Lydia Chan (Quincy, Mass.) and Meagan Carney (Arlington, Mass.), 8-3. Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) and Kate Hardy (Southington, Conn.) took care of Tanya Kibiy (Rockville, Md.) and Skylar Robles (Spokane, Wash.) in doubles #3, 8-2. The best match of doubles competition occurred in doubles #2 where Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) outlasted Elena Albano (Haverill, Mass.) and Lia Vassiliadis (Weymouth, Mass.), 8-5.
 
In singles, the Beacons did give the Hawks some tough competition in the top two matches, but the results nonetheless went in favor of the hosts. Place took care of Carney, 6-2, 6-4 in singles #1. The best duel of the match came in the #2 flight of singles where Cahoon outlasted Chan, 6-2, 3-6, 10-5. Roger Williams dominated the rest of singles play however, beginning with Ferraro shutting out Albano, 6-0, 6-0 at singles #3. Alexa DiCesare (Norwood, Mass.) got the nod at singles #4 and beat Vassiliadis, 6-0, 6-4. In singles #5, McCarthy defeated Kibiy, 6-0, 6-0. Finally, Santoro rounded out the box score with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Robles in singles #6.
