How It Happened
The Hawks put the pressure on the Blue Jay defense throughout most of the early part of the first quarter. Six minutes into the period, Hannah Palmer (Essex Junction, Vt.) brought the ball down the right side of the arc, made her way past the Blue Jay defense and put in a shot that just trickled off of the goalie to put the Hawks up 1-0.

Two minutes later, a foul inside the shooting circle gave Roger Williams a penalty stroke opportunity. Hannah Gaffney (Bolton, Mass.) stepped up for the Hawks and put in a shot to the right side of the goal for a 2-0 RWU advantage.

The second quarter saw Roger Williams put up five shots in the period but were unable to capitalize on any of them. Conversely, the RWU defense continued to put in work against the Blue Jays, holding USJ without a single shot in the first half.

In the third quarter, the Hawks caught a bit of bad luck that wiped a score off the board. Seven minutes into the period. Gaffney connected with Carolyn Bauman (Westbrook, Conn.) off of a penalty corner to score the third goal of the game. However, the referees ruled that an attacking player left early which disallowed the goal.

Roger Williams would get the goal back late in the quarter. A foul in the arc with just over three minutes left set up the second penalty stroke of the day for RWU. Hunter Phillips (Schuylerville, N.Y.) came through for the Hawks and buried the shot for her first goal of the season.

The fourth quarter saw a barrage of RWU goals early in the period. In a two-minute stretch, Amelia Monahan (Bristol, N.H.), Cate Delaney (Gloucester, Mass.), and Sara Carney (Franklin, Mass.) all registered their first collegiate scores to double Roger Williams' lead.

Callie Flanagan (Wenham, Mass.) and Jill Haudenshield (Sykesville, Md.) both had an easy day in goal as the rest of the Hawk defense held Saint Joseph without a shot in the game. Flanagan picked up the win and in the process tied the program record with 19 career victories.
