How It Happened
Mac Annus (Belmont, Mass.) scored the first five points of the evening on a layup and a three-pointer. He would start off the game with 11 points in the first eight minutes of play, going 4-for-4 from the field while hitting a trio of shots from downtown. In all, Roger Williams would hit 12 threes in the first half, while shooting 52.2 percent from behind the arc in the period.
Yet despite Roger Williams' hot shooting, Gordon still kept pace with the Hawks. The Fighting Scots connected on 59.4 percent of their shots (19-for-32) while outrebounding RWU 21-11 in the half. Gordon trailed by eight points with 5:37 to play in the period, but closed out the half on a 22-11 run, with Michael Makiej (Andover, Mass.) scoring eight points for Gordon to give the Fighting Scots a 47-44 lead going into halftime.
Makiej and Zach Quanico (Pacifica, Calif.) both scored on the first two possessions to quickly put Gordon up by eight. However, Roger Williams made their way back in the game with
Will MacDonald (York, Maine) knocking down a three to put Roger Williams up 57-56 with 16:38 left. His bucket would be part of 20-3 Hawk run that turned a five-point deficit into a 12-point lead. Gordon made it a six-point game (67-73) with 10:27 left. Yet the Hawks answered with a 19-2 run to extend the advantage to 23 and take control of the game.
