How It Happened
A three-pointer by
Katie Galligan (Pembroke, Mass.) were the only points over the first two minutes of the game. Taylor Bogdanski (Saugus, Mass.) later gave Endicott a 6-4 lead with a layup at the 5:33 mark. With the score tied at 12, Endicott ended the quarter on a 10-4 run to take a 22-16 lead.
In the second, the Gulls extended the lead to nine on a three-point play by Sarah Dempsey (Windham, N.H.). The Hawks would later cut it to three on a jumper by Galligan but they were unable to come closer the rest of the half.
Sophie Araneo (Branford, Conn.) drained a three on RWU's last possession of the quarter to make it a seven-point game.
Endicott continued to hold the advantage over the Hawks in the third quarter, taking a 12-point lead early into the quarter. However, Roger Williams would persevere, chipping away at the deficit.
Caroline Elie (Rockland, Mass.) put in a layup with 1:13 left in the quarter to pull Roger Williams within four (46-50). RWU would enter the fourth down 46-52.
In the fourth, the Roger Williams defense clamped down on the Gulls. The Hawks held Endicott scoreless over the first eight minutes of the quarter. On the other end, the team climbed their way back into the game, with Elie knocking down a pair of free throws to put RWU up 53-52 with 6:33 left to play.
Elie made it a 57-54 lead for Roger Williams with a layup with 1:16 left, but Dempsey made it a one-point game with a jumper with 45 seconds left. Endicott had the final possession and came close to getting the win, but a missed layup allowed RWU to hold off the Gulls for the win.
