How It Happened
The 69-point margin of victory for Roger Williams breaks the previous record of 58, set by the 1988-89 team who defeated Simmons College 87-29 on November 17, 1988. In addition, the 93 points scored by Roger Williams also marks a new program best, besting the previous mark of 91 points set twice before.
In the process of the win,
Karli Opalka (Southbury, Conn.) set a new career high with 32 points while
Caroline Elie (Rockland, Mass.) handed out a career-best ten assists.
The Hawks put the game away early in the opening quarter. Opalka kicked off the game with a pair of layups for RWU before Emerson Cherry scored a basket for the Colonels. On the other end, Opalka would score another basket that would begin a 16-0 run for RWU over the next four minutes for a 20-2 lead. The Hawks would lead 28-5 after the first quarter.
The Hawks would hold Curry to single digit scoring in all four quarters, with eight in each of the second and third quarters and only three in the fourth. Conversely, the Hawks put up at least 20 points in the following two quarters with 21 in the second and 27 in the third.
Lindsay Towle (Dover, N.H.) scored the final basket of the game for RWU that would put the margin at 69.
